Fabryka Wagonów Gniewczyna S.A. is a recognized producer of freight cars and a supplier of services in the modernization and repair of railway rolling stock. 

Our company is not only a well-established player in the market, but, most importantly, it is associated with high quality products and a high level of provided services.

Freight car production 

We carry out freight car production based on the customer’s and our own documentation, the latter prepared by our construction office. Our company can supply almost any type of freight car, designed to meet the client’s expectations. 

We produced our first freight cars in 1996 for the national market, and then in 2000 we started to execute a large contract for the Western market. 

Up to now we have produced over 1900 different types of freight cars, including:

Freight car modernisation and restructuring 

One of the key areas of the company’s activity is the modernization and restructuring of freight cars. This activity began as a result of a search for a new direction of development while the plant was still being built back in 1993, with a view to using up the unnecessary railway stock. All modernization and restructuring activities have been carried out according to the documentation prepared by the construction office. It can be said that we were a pioneer in this field.
We have now modernized and rebuilt more than 4,400 freight cars of 14 types.

• Coal and platform cars, Eamos series, type: 401Zk and 401Zp

We are currently working on a number of new projects.

Freight car repairs 

The company was established as a repair company and the target market was intended to be the repair of platforms, coal and platform cars and coal cars. However, quickly changing market conditions resulted in the extension of our range to include other freight car types, i.e. covered and specialist units. The falling demand for repairs to freight cars owned by Polish National Railways (PKP) initiated our shift to repairs of privately owned carriages, allowing us to continue to use our repair capacity. We have the technical and organizational capacity to enable us to repair almost any type of freight car, and have now repaired over 53,500 carriages of various types.

Welded constructions 

The technical and human resources, certification and permits as well as the market needs created an opportunity to start operations in another field, the production of welded structures both for the domestic and foreign market. 

We have established and continue to develop cooperation within this field with well-known companies, fabricating constructions of high technical standards for them. 

These constructions are: 

• Freight car frames
• Specialist engine constructions
• Front parts of underground cars
• Semi-trailers for cars 

We also make other types of large-size welded structures for the Polish market.

Quality 

In May 2007 Fabryka Wagonów Gniewczyna successfully underwent a recertification audit, confirming the conformity of the quality management system with the requirements of ISO 9001. The certification includes: design and production of freight cars and their components as well as freight car restructuring and repair. 

Having international quality certification enables the further, dynamic development of our company, oriented at providing high quality service and increasing our clients’ trust in terms of efficiency and organization effectiveness, with the support of our financial and social profits and the raising of employee awareness through numerous training sessions.
