KOLPROJEKT Ltd. Design and Research Railway Center Warsaw

Design and Research Railway Center “KOLPROJEKT” Ltd. is a leader specialistic company in the field of the civil engineering especially in train linear building, cubic and general. Company was called by the Minister of Communication of 30 June 1949. From 1st January 1950 became interdisciplinary design unit under the name “Transport Design and Study Office”.

During 55 years of existing have gained many organizational transformations and thanks to the initiative and superiority of the investment market of PKP (Polish Railway State) 8 railway design offices could rise.

Privatizing and economical changes in Poland in 90 years, let the Office status changes. The 2 March 1999 with Notarial Deed, enterprise state was converted into the Company Ltd.

In 55 year period of activity “KOLPROJEKT” participated in design studies for the majority of investment undertaking in the field of the communication as well as in the investments tasks with the nationwide and priority meaning both for the Polish State Railways and the industry in Poland and abroad. Also have made design works in Poland, Egypt, Albania, Lebanon, Iraq, Greece and Slovakia.

The Company is dealing with designing civil engineering, electroenergetics, telecommunications and automatic field. Is preparing multiple-branch conceptions, studies, building projects, performing projects as well as preparing tender materials.

Lines and railway stations, Analysis of the Train Infrastructure, Technology of the Rail Transport

Basing on documentation made by “KOLPROJEKT” appears that it was made 1300 km of new railway lines and rebuilt singe-track lines to double track. To the most important investments belongs: 

• Modernization of the line E30 Warsaw-Poznań-Kunowice at distance of 478 km with adapting to speed V=160km/h 

• Central Main Railway Line from Zawiercie through Idzikowice-Mszczonów-Grodzisk Maz. to Warsaw with terminating lines and electrification with total track mileage 220 km. Geometry of the path adapted for speed V=250 km/h. 

• Line mill-sulphuric Hrubieszów-Huta Katowice at total track 440km with Łosień railway station. 

• The second pair of paths of the diameter line in Warsaw and Pilawa-Dęblin, West Warsaw, Czachówek 

• Project of the transport system of the Warsaw Rail Knot 

• Conception of the route for the north segment of CMK Warsaw-Gdańsk 

• District line of the Silesian urbanized area at 30km 

• Studies of the railway line for V>300km/h on the area of Poland Berlin-Warsaw-Moscow 

• Study of construction and the modernization of existing border crossings on main traffic routes East-West and North-South 

• Project of including the train arrangements into the Warsaw communication system with taking into consideration services of an airport Okęcie 

• The Office worked out documentation of 16 marshalling yard stations e.g. Warsaw Praga, Warsaw Odolany, Poznań Franowo, Lublin-Tatary, Dąbrowa Górnicza freight and more 

• Lines with the international meaning E-20, E-30, E-65, adapted to agreements AGTC, AGC
Study of the modernization of the railway line Warsaw-Łódź 

• Improvement of the infrastructure in Poland “BOTTLE-NECK” Engineer of the Contract
Border crossing Małaszewicze on the border with Belarus also favoured by IPB with II award – “Engineering Draft of the Year 2004” Border Crossing Międzylesie-Lichkov (border with Czech) 

At the moment “KOLPROJEKT” works on building projects for modernization of the line E-65 on the segment LCS Ciechanów (Local Center of Steering), line E-30 on the segment Zgorzelec-Legnica, line CE-30 on the segment Opole-Wrocław and the building and performing projects at the East segment of line E-20 Mińsk-Siedlce.

Architecture and Building, Engineering Objects

In the scope of the railway stations there have been designed and carried out over 120 objects. They have invented innovative spatial and programme-functional arrangements particularly in city stations. The central position in designing railway stations was Central Station in Warsaw.
Updating and expansion of the stations West Warsaw, East Warsaw, Warsaw Gdańsk, border stations: Kuźnicka Białostocka, Międzylesie and many others. 

A great distinction for Company was establishing the conception of the building and performing project for adaptation an ancient building boarding (school) of the Train College in Warsaw to the Seat of the General Management of the Polish Railway State. The building is modernized and equipped in the latest technical devices, computer networks with monitored access, structural wiring up etc. 

In the scope of engineering building the Company built numerous bridges among others: across Vistula in Tczew, and Góra Kalwaria, across Odra in Wrocław, project of modernization of the Poniatowski Bridge in Warsaw and many others.

Electroenergetics and contact lines

“KOLPROJEKT” work out the electric power study on the line E-20 with taking into consideration the train control to speed V=160 km/h by locomotives with power 6MW and all types of control wires use in PKP. There are about 6000km of modernized railway lines.

Automatics and telecommunication

On modernized stations there were worked out projects of electronic systems of steering the train traffic with monitoring. The trails are equipped with systems of the automatic block, diagnostic devices and automatic level crossing. The company worked out the documentation: for digitalization of 6 knots of the train telecommunications grasping 30 head offices, documentation for arranging 2500 km of the fibre-optic cable, the closed-circuit television for 20 railway crossings, draught contact and many different. The Office made an elaboration of a technical plan of the cable teletransmission Athens-Saloniki with the author supervision.

Technology of the train back

The most important achievements: 

Project of the coach depot Warsaw Grochów as the most modern in the country with projects of mechanical devices assuring technological equipement project of the butt welding of tracks in Bydgoszcz as one of a few projects applying most modern technology of processing the welding tracks in Europe. 

They modernized 8 and 2 new Repair Factories of Train Means of Transport were designed.
They designed and modernized many engine sheds and other workshop objects of the train back
From many years “KOLPROJEKT” has been using computer technology on the digital maps to prepare the projects with the aid of world standard software like MX/MOSS and AutoCAD. They are complying with standards, regulations of the Polish Construction Law and also actual departmental regulations and nationwide regulations. The projects made by “KOLPROJEKT” got very good opinion of experts from EBOR from London and specialist being in charge of programs PHARE from Brussels and EBI from Luxembourg.

The studies of line E-20 have a special meaning because of their innovative character which serve as standards for other railway lines among others: E-30 and E-65. Essential input for this conception was assured by PKP General Management and Office of Investment and Development in DOKP in Poznań an Warsaw. “KOLPROJEKT” as a Leader, worked out the technical specification and tender documents also coordinated investment processes in the scope of design study in the same time have been working with complex multi-branch studies with other Company’s from Poznań and Łódź.

While working at several projects, studies “KOLPROJEKT” cooperated with many research institutions, universities and foreign company’s:

• Bombardier Transportation Rail Engineering in which “KOLPROJEKT” owns 41% of shares

• GEOPARTNER and many more. 

“KOLPROJEKT” works as an active member of Railway Business Forum, Chamber of Building Designing, Polish Chamber of Producers of Devices and Services for Railways, the Chamber of Overland Transportation, Affiliating Engineers and Engineers of the Communication at the Principal Technical Organization in Warsaw.

The entry of “KOLPROJEKT” to C. C. R.EUROPEAN COMMISION is the new stage in the activity of Company. Next significant moment in “KOLPROJEKT’s ” activity, confirming high quality of services, received 2nd March 2001 the Certificate of Quality ISO 9001.

Office has also References of the Technical Credibility from Technical Chamber of Building Designing, and also won the competition organized by IPB “The Best Company in Poland in years 1990-2005”. It has “Code of the National Economy Subject” NCAGE.

During 55 years of activity the Company worked out many projects. It required employing and training the specialist from more than 15 industries. Our crew is resilient, dynamic, experienced. Moreover many of retired employees still maintain close contacts with the Office and support some technical problems or doubts.
