The National Railway Freight Company, "CFR Marfa"- S.A. was founded on the 1st October 1998, upon the reorganization through the splitting of the Romanian Railways National Company and it has the status of a commercial company. 

CFR Marfa is a company that develops its activities in the field of services and its main scope is freight and other goods public railway transport, both in domestic and international traffic. In this respect:

- It operates on the infrastructure of the Romanian Railways as a national railway operator; 
- It owns a private patrimony and obtains proceeds from its use.
