OJSC TransContainer is a subsidiary of OJSC RZhD, registered on 4 March 2006 on the basis of OJSC RZhD’s branch – ‘TransContainer’ Centre for Container Transportation of Freight. It commenced operations on 1 July 2006.

Today, OJSC TransContainer is Russia’s largest container operator, employing over 5,000 people, with 47 terminals in all of Russia’s major freight centres, while its 17 branches encompass the entire network of Russian Railways. In addition, TransContainer owns the largest fleet of specialist rolling stock in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic States, with over 23,000 fitting platforms and over 53,000 large-tonnage containers.

OJSC TransContainer continues to tackle issues consistently to optimise the logistics involved in Russian container transportation. It is also an active participant in the implementation of the Russian Federation’s Transport Strategy, and is fulfilling government orders for social freight transportation.

TransContainer offers all its clients an integrated service, involving the organisation of container transportation, including railway transport, delivery by road and the terminal handling and customs clearance of freight. All of the client service centres currently being established by the company on the basis of its own agencies can handle planning, estimates and payment for the entire range of services rendered, irrespective of where they are rendered. OJSC TransContainer addresses problems involving the transportation of freight in containers, however complex and whatever the volume.

One of OJSC TransContainer’s top-priority areas of activity is the development of its own international agency network, as a result of its efficient cooperation with European and Asian railways and with partner organisations. The company has already opened representative offices in Germany, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and China, and has agents working in China, Japan, South Korea and Turkey. A joint venture, ContainerTrans Scandinavia, has been established in Finland.
